Colouful, cosmopolitan and inviting, the community of Airlie Beach is the mainland gateway to the Whitsundays...
The town of Whitsunday consists of Airlie Beach, Cannonvale, Jubilee Pocket, Mandalay and Shute Harbour, set within a laid back tropical lifestyle.
The main centre, Airlie Beach is situated on a picturesque peninsula that consists of one street with many little side-streets peppered woth coffee shops, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, fast food eateries, boutiques, banks, small supermarkets and accommodation alternatives.
As you drive into Airlie Beach the road climbs above Abel Point Marina, providing expansive views with the islands on the horizon. Be sure to visit the Airlie Beach Lagoon, set in landscaped parkland that overlooks Pioneer Bay, this man-made outdoor saltwater pool also boasts free bbq areas, toilet and shower facilities and a children's pool and playground. It is also popular for travellers to meet for a refreshing swim, sunbake and relax.
Every Saturday morning an outdoor marketplace along the foreshore takes place. On Sunday nights enjoy free live music.
Airlie's dining and entertainment options are primairly located along the main street and Esplanade and vary from resort dining to al fresco cafe and cheap eats. Two major shopping centres are situated in Cannonvale on the corners of Island Drive and Paluma Road. Numerous services and banks are all within easy reach and a regular bus run links Cannonvale to Shute Harbour.
Airlie Beach has a fantastic selection of accommodation including stylish resort hotels on the waters edge and apartments on the framing hills with stunning views that overlook the beach, bay and islands. There is also a host of centrally located backpacker accommodation options.
Much of the water-based activity in the Whitsundays departs from Abel Point Marina, just a five minute walk from the centre of Airlie Beach via a scenic boardwalk which winds along the water's edge. Just beyond Airlie Beach is Shute Harbour, Australia's second busiest commuter quay.Edit This Page
