Updated: 14-Feb-2012Experiencing the aquatic playground is what it's all about, and not just below the water's surface...
Aboard a sailing boat is one of the best ways to appreciate the Whitsundays. Explore calm waters, closely placed islands and rich ecosystems during numerous one-day and extended cruise options. Be navigated around in a classic tall ship, or a performance yacht.
Whitehaven Beach is a must, seven kilometres of pristine silica-sand and crystal clear aqua waters. The breathtaking beauty ensures it is an icon of Australia's natural history.
At the northern end of Whitehaven Beach is Hill Inlet, a stunning cove where the tide shifts the sand and water to create a beautiful fusion of colours. Take a walk to the lookout on Whitsunday Island where you can take advantage of the best views of both Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet.
There are many day trips that depart from Airlie Beach and some of the island resorts. Ferries and luxury cruising yachts to extended sailing adventures, whilst the more adventurous can try Ocean Rafting, sea kayaking, a seaplane or helicopter. Most cruises offer snorkelling, beach or water games. A full day three-island cruise gives you the perfect opportunity to experience the best of the islands.
Alternatively, why not explore the secluded inlets, bays and beaches at your own pace on an un-crewed 'bareboat'. Basic sailing skills are the only requirement and a range of boats are accessible through Whitsundays Rent A Yacht and Bareboat Charters.
