The Whitsundays is serviced by two airports:

  • Whitsunday Coast Airport
Located approx 40 minutes or 25km from Airlie Beach, just south of Proserpine. The airport is serviced by Virgin Blue and Jetstar with direct flights from Sydney and Brisbane, and connecting flights to all major cities. Comfortable air-conditioned public buses connect from Whitsunday Coast Airport to Shute Harbour, Airlie Beach and Cannonvale. Cruise Whitsundays and Fantasea Cruises offer a coach transfer service for inter-island connections.

  • Great Barrier Reef Airport on Hamilton Island
Jetstar, Virgin Blue and Qantas offer direct flights to Hamilton Island. Qantas also offers a direct daily connection with Cairns. All mainland and island flights are either direct or connect via Sydney or Brisbane.

Air transfers by helicopter, light aircraft or seaplane are available from Great Barrier Reef Airport and the smaller non-commercial Whitsunday Airport located between Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour. Services are available with Air Whitsunday, Aviation Adventures and Aviation Tourism Australia.

Fast catamaran transfers are available from Hamilton Island to Long Island, Daydream Island and Lindeman Island
