About South Molle Island
Adventure Island Resort is located on South Molle Island. South Molle is a continental island and part of the beautiful Whitsunday group of Islands off the coast of tropical North Queensland, Australia.  This is the largest of the Molle islands  (North, Mid, and South Molle islands).

There is 400 hectares of protected national parkland on South Molle. The island is hilly, covered with grasslands, bays, rainforest, and nearby fringing reefs. Visitors can climb one of the many hills to see unparalleled views of the surrounding area. At low tide South Molle is connected to Mid Molle Island.

South Molle Island is inhabited by a diverse number of bird species, Nocturnal fruit bats or flying foxes can also be seen on the island – in the valley along the “Spion Kop” walking trail. Green Tree Snakes and Brown Pythons are the only known snakes on the island. Many of the 100 butterflies known to inhabit the Whitsundays can be seen on South Molle Island.
Walking Tracks on South Molle Island
Enjoy stunning views along South Molle’s tracks. All graded tracks on the island offer a variety of
vegetation, wildlife and spectacular destinations.

Walks starting from Bauer Bay

Spion Kop (Grade: moderate)
Distance: 4 km return
Time: Allow 2 hours

Details: Offering spectacular views, this track traverses rainforest, grassland and open eucalypt forest
to lookouts over the resort and Whitsunday Passage. This track also passes an ancient Ngaro stone quarry,
an area of shattered rock high on the hillside and spilling toward the sea marks the site.

Mount Jeffreys (Grade: moderate)
Distance: 5.2 km return
Time: Allow 3 hours

Details: If seeking incredible views, this walk is a must. The track winds up a gradual slope to South
Molle Island’s highest point, Mount Jeffreys. Once there, you will enjoy a sensational 360º view of the
Whitsunday islands and mainland.

Sandy Bay (Grade: moderate)
Distance: 7.8 km return
Time: Allow 4 hours

Details: Rainforest, open eucalypt forest, and patches of native grasslands studded with grasstrees
feature on this track. Approaching the beach, the vegetation becomes sparse and the beach margins are
lined with coastal she-oaks.

Balancing Rock (Grade: moderate)
Distance: 1.6 km return
Time: Allow 1 hour

Details: Perched in eucalypt forest, Balancing Rock provides views across the patchwork of South Molle’s
vegetation communities. Take care when climbing the rock; traversing up its rocky crevices can be
difficult and dangerous, particularly when wet.
Walks starting from Bauer Bay’s western end

Paddle Bay (Grade: easy)
Distance: 3.8 km return
Time: Allow 2 hours

Details: The track winds down to a beach of coral fragments and continues along the beach away from the
resort. A picnic area overlooks Daydream, Mid and North Molle islands. At low tide you can walk to Mid
Molle Island—access is restricted to the two-hour period before and after low tide. Check tides before
setting out.

Lamond Hill (Grade: moderate)
Distance: 3.6 km return
Time: Allow 2 hours

Details: Climbing through open eucalypt forest to Lamond Hill, this track overlooks the resort with a
viewto distant mainland ranges.
